About the client

Founded in 1945, Modern Group of Companies (Modern) is a construction and engineering company in New Brunswick that operates two quarries, produces asphalt mixes, and supports roadwork and civil engineering projects.

When the company’s shareholders decided the time was right to sell, Modern reached out to our M&A team for assistance. With an approach rooted in our trusted relationship, we had a strong understanding of their business, having served them for many years. Our M&A team assisted the shareholders throughout  the transaction, including providing recommendations to assist them in their negotiations with the buyer, negotiating terms of the purchase and sale agreement, and providing tax structuring advice. Our team also provided best practices and recommendations  for Modern’s leadership throughout the selling process. While the deal was being completed, the company’s regular business still had to operate. As a result of our tailored M&A approach and personalized client service, Modern’s leadership was able to remain focused on their day-to-day business.

VINCI Construction (VINCI), a French concessions, energy solutions, and construction firm, was identified as the right buyer. By acquiring Modern, VINCI has expanded its footprint across Eastern Canada.
