Leading Inclusively

We're proud of our unique, award-winning culture where our colleagues are encouraged to grow, make a difference, and reach their full potential. We’re like those big cities that feel like small towns; where people take time to connect, support one another, and foster a sense of belonging. In everything we do, we aim to Lead Inclusively.

Leading Inclusively is our commitment to fostering a culture where individual differences are valued, diverse perspectives are welcomed, and everyone has equitable access to opportunities for growth and development. It shapes how we support our people, help our clients thrive, and make a meaningful difference in our communities.
We know that building an inclusive workplace is ongoing work. That's why we continue to listen, learn, and evolve our practices to help create an environment where colleagues feel respected, supported, and inspired to be their best.

Belonging at Doane Grant Thornton

Leading Inclusively is woven throughout everything we do. It shapes our culture, influences how we work together, and guides the way we support our clients, colleagues, and communities.

Inclusion is about creating opportunity. Belonging is about how people experience our culture every day.

We want our colleagues to feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work, knowing their perspectives are heard, that their contributions are valued, and they have equitable opportunities to grow, make a difference, and achieve their goals.

How we Lead Inclusively

We work to embed inclusive practices throughout the colleague experience. Here are some of the ways in which you can see, hear, and feel our culture of inclusion:

Equitable opportunities

We bring together teams with diverse perspectives and experiences to help our clients solve complex challenges while creating equitable access to meaningful work and experiences that support our colleagues' career aspirations.

Inclusive leadership

We equip our people managers and leaders with learning, resources, and tools that help support equitable decision-making and foster inclusive team environments. We also regularly review our policies, programs, and practices to identify and reduce potential barriers to opportunity.

Learning and awareness

Through our internal Learning to Thrive platform and ongoing professional development opportunities, colleagues have access to resources that support awareness, understanding, and informed dialogue on topics related to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and well-being.

Flexibility and support

We understand that flexibility helps people do their best work. Through our Flex-Ability framework, alternative work arrangements, and additional support resources, we help colleagues balance work, family and caregiving responsibilities.

Listening and continuous improvement

We regularly seek feedback from our people to help inform programs, initiatives, and opportunities that strengthen inclusion, belonging, and equitable access to growth and development across the firm.

Accountability matters

Leading Inclusively is championed by our CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and advisory committees, helping ensure inclusion and belonging remain an organizational priority.

Across Canada, our Inclusiveness Champions and People and Culture team help bring Leading Inclusively to life within each business unit. Working closely with leaders and colleagues, they help identify opportunities, elevate diverse perspectives, and foster a culture where everyone has equitable opportunities to succeed and pursue their career aspirations.

"What makes Doane Grant Thornton special is the way people come together to support one another. Leading Inclusively helps us build on that foundation by creating a culture where everyone feels they belong, diverse perspectives are welcomed, and people are empowered to make a difference for our clients, communities, and one another."

– Sandra Pietrzyk, Chief People and Culture Officer

Inclusion in action

Building a culture of belonging is a continuous journey. Through learning, colleague engagement, and community-focused initiatives, we create opportunities to share experiences, broaden perspectives, and strengthen the connections that make our culture unique.

Whether through colleague-led conversations, cultural celebrations, community engagement, or shared learning opportunities, these initiatives help foster understanding, encourage meaningful dialogue, and strengthen our culture of belonging.

Representation and progress

We’re encouraged by the progress we’ve made in increasing the representation of women in leadership. Currently, women represent 35% of our Partners and Principals, and 46% of our Senior Leadership Team and Partnership Board are women.

Recruiting inclusively

From your first interactions with us, you'll notice a difference. We work to ensure our recruitment experience is welcoming, accessible, and equitable—helping candidates showcase their skills, experience, and potential.

Our commitment doesn't end when someone joins the firm. Through onboarding, learning opportunities, and meaningful experiences, we strive to create an environment where our people feel supported, empowered, and able to build rewarding careers while making a difference for our clients and communities.
